I was thinking of getting a credit card that offers rental car insurance. I was just wondering if anyone has used this service? Experiences good and bad?

I had a master card that claimed to insure a rental. When the windshield was broken I filed and they refused to cover the expense, claiming I was not covered in New York. I was in Texas at the time. After long correspondence I finally realized they were not going to cover anything.

Working for a UK rental company, I wouldn’t recommend it, mainly as if you have to pay the insurance excess, you pay it off your credit card and claim it back from the card company – HOWEVER you have NO guarantee that the credit card company are going to cover it!! There are too many loopholes that they can use to get out of reimbursing you and you’re left with several hundred dollars to pay off your account!
Most reputable hire companies offer you standard insurance and then an additional excess waiver so you’re best sticking with that.
