I have very limited credit and would like to increase it. i was searching online comparing credit cards and found this one http://www.capitalone.com/creditcards/products/10589/3/indexwl.php?external_id=CJA_ZZ10491459_USCCJ_1469133_89780ca820081f068d17229512b757 For someone who is basically starting out, does this sound like a good way to go? sadly im not too credit savvy
A company bought my account off of my original creditor for probably a small amount compared to the now $11,000 balance. Since the amount is more than $5000, it may have to be tried in civil court instead of small claims. If brought to civil, would it be worth it for the collection agency to go ahead with filing it b/c of the money they will have to spend with court fee, etc? Also is it possible they can go to small claims instead by asking for $5000 instead of the full balance? They keep threatening to bring it to court asap, but then follow up the next day with a settlement of around $5000 or so while using different scaring tactics each call.
I’m closing on a house tomorrow. Will my credit card application that went through today (rejected, btw) affect anything tomorrow? Or is it safe to assume all of the loan stuff is pretty much done, we just have to sign the papers? I have no credit history.
We’re signing the papers tonight, but since it’s after business hours they said it won’t go through until tomorrow. Does this make any difference?

I’ve been looking for part time evening work, and have applied at a few places that use online employment applications. I’m wondering if when I input my social, if they then run that, will it lower my credit score? Or is that a different type of running the social as opposed to credit applications (such a credit cards etc)?
I have requested a paper credit card application for my father who would be 86 and would prefer to submit an application by mail. I was told that there was no place online to print the paper application, but paper applications were available from branches. As the closest branch would be a 24 mile round trip I wonder when I call the branch they will use their bulk rate postage to sent an application by mail or insist I drive to the branch? Does this smell of some kind of discrimination against those who choose not to reveal credit card information online?
I thought that it was better to pay off and cancel all your credit cards before applying for a morgage. I asked a bank employee this question as I may seek a mortgage next year. She told me that it has changed somewhat. Now, it is to the buyers advantage to have many credit cards, with long history, and zero balances. I’d just like to position myself to the greatest advantage before seeking a mortgage.
